Chandigarh Lions retained home pride when they beat Delhi Jets by nine runs in the opening match of the Indian Cricket League's (ICL) Twenty-20 Indian Championship at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex cricket stadium in Panchkula on Friday evening.
Put in to bat first by Delhi Jets skipper Marvan Atapattu, Chandigarh Lions led by former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns scored 134 runs in their 20 overs. Andrew Hall top-scored with an unbeaten 31 runs for the Lions. Batting second, Delhi Jets fell short by nine runs after being well into the chase till the last over. S Abbas Ali remained unbeaten with 30 runs while Atapattu scored 29 runs. Seven sixes and 23 fours were hit in the match which was played completely under floodlights after the inaugural ceremony of the ICL championship.
