An Unbeaten hurricane knock of 80 runs off 54 balls by Hamish Marshall saw Royal Bengal Tigers maul Chennai Superstars by nine wickets in the Indian Cricket League Twenty20 Tournament being played at Tau Devi Lal Stadium on Tuesday.
The New Zealander opened the Bengal Tigers' innings with Deep Dasgupta and the duo was involved in a century partnership (132 runs) for the first wicket. Dasgupta played a breezy knock of 54 runs off 46 balls with the help of four boundaries and two towering sixes. However, it was Hamish Marshall who dominated the bowlers right from the word go and played some scintillating strokes all over the ground. His unbeaten innings contained eight boundaries and three mighty sixes. Skipper McMillan joined Hamish at the fall of Dasgupta and the duo steered Tigers towards win with five balls remaining. Earlier, Chennai Superstars made 161 in 19.5 overs. Andre Adams struck in the second over to remove Chennai Superstars' Hemanth Kumar when the team score was on 12. However, Vignesh didn't curb his attacking game as he smashed 22 runs off 13 balls before lofting a catch to Rohan Gavaskar off Adams. A disciplined bowling performance by Bengal bowlers saw the Superstars score run-a-ball. After the dismissal of Russel Arnold and Jesuraj, R Satish walked in and produced some fire-works with a blistering knock of 50 runs off just 25 balls. He smashed 22 runs off Upul Chandana's in the thirteenth over to get the Chennai side right back in the game. His knock contained five boundaries and three towering sixes. Giving him company at the other side was Hemant Badani who scored his third ICL fifty off 40 balls in the 18th over. Just when it looked that Chennai were heading towards a mammoth total, Upul Chandana scalped three wickets for just one run in the 19th over to bounce back into the game. Chandana took four wickets for 38 runs while Eklak Ahmid took three wickets for 21 runs.
