A well compiled half century from Hemang Badani helped Chennai Superstars to defeat Delhi Giants by five runs in the ICL 20s Championship at Tau Devi Lal stadium in Gurgaon.
Chasing a target of 167, the Delhi team failed to capitalise on the flying start given by captain Marvan Atapattu (25) and fellow opener Monish Mishra as they lost wickets at regular intervals. The two Delhi openers added 60 runs in just seven overs but Syed Mohammad cleaned up Mishra who was looking dangerous for Chennai. The opener plundered two sixes and three fours in a quick 36 which came of just 20 deliveries. The Chennai bowlers, though went for runs, but did pick up wickets at crucial moments to put Delhi on the backfoot. For Chennai, Nantie Hayward was pick of the bowlers claiming two wickets for just 25 runs. Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, Chennai was in spot of bother at four for 60 in the seventh over but Badani held the innings together and scored a well compiled unbeaten 51 off 45 balls which had five fours and a six. The left-hander was given man of the match for his polished innings. Later in the innings, Sathish and captain Stuart Law scored some quick runs to take the total to 166 for six. Sathish demolished the Delhi bowling with some powerful hitting as he raced to 41 off 28 balls with six fours and a six, while his captain made a useful 28 in the death overs. The Delhi pacers found the going tough as T Sudhindra, Abid Nabi, Shane Bond and J P Yadav all went for over eight runs per over. However, all the pacers did manage to claim a wicket each, while left-arm bowler Ali Murtaza was too miser as he gave away just 11 runs in his four overs and also removed the dangerous Sathish.
