The inaugural match of the ICL 20s World Series featured the spirited ICL Bangladesh take on the formidable ICL World at the Sardar Patel Stadium.
In the end it was a disciplined effort from the ICL World compounded by a batting failure from the usually strong Bangladesh batting that saw the World side win the tournament opener by 12 runs. Lance Klusener took the World team to a respectable score of 167 off their 20 overs with an innings of 63 not out off 49 balls. Then, he shone with the ball, taking three for 18 to snuff out the rivals’ challenge. Zulu started off cautiously but stepped on the gas in the last two overs. Put into bat by Bangladesh skipper Habibul Bashar, World got off to a good start with Murray Goodwin starting off by spanking 4 fours off the last four balls of the first over by Mohd Sharif. Ian Harvey too looked in good nick as he got a four off the the first ball of the second over, but was dismissed the very next ball, caught at cover by Alok Kapali. Boje and Klusener consolidated the innings later and strung together a valuable partnership of 55 runs until Boje was stumped after making 34 off 23 balls. Klusener brought up his half century in the nineteenth over with a fortunate french cut for four and then launched into the bowling in the last over sending the first ball for a huge straight six.
